The cottage at Across a Pond is located on the banks of one of Kerala’s important rivers, which empties out into the mighty Vembanad lake. The 18 acre farm is owned and operated by a Keralan family and has been their family home for over a century. The main produce at the farm is fish, followed by coconuts, bananas and several other fruits and vegetables. The fish here are fed with high quality feed thereby guaranteeing superior taste, the farm was recently awarded the best freshwater fish farm by the Govt of Kerala. If you’re interested the host would gladly guide you on the nuances of fish farming and even provide you with fish seeds and feed. Recently, after demands from friends and family, the farm has been opened to the outside world as a means to help travelers experience the authentic village and farming lifestyle of Kerala’s backwater regions. The property overlooks a massive private pond, home to ducks, geese, tortoises and plenty of colourful fish. A tranquil haven tucked away in beautiful scenery, recommended if you are looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to stay surrounded by nature!

The cottage is ideal for upto 5 guests and comes with all basic amenities, a bar, a kitchen as well as beautiful decor and furniture. The highlight of the cottage being the big glass walls ensuring a lot of natural light coming in, perfect to read with a view of sunset reflecting on the fish pond right in front of the cottage. There’s an array of board games and books to choose from at the property.

The real life of Kerala’s backwaters lies in the inland channels of its rivers, swaying coconut palms and lush paddy fields. Stand up paddling, kayaking and cycling are the best way to explore it. Discover water locked villages and their unique culture, spot migratory birds like the Siberian stork, egrets, darters, herons and teals by the fields.
