the space

Nestled in five acres of private virgin forest on a remote mountain top in the Idukki district of Kerala, the property overlooks the lush green valleys of the Western Ghats. The hosts believe that responsible tourism can be a transformative force that has the power to revitalise local communities, create jobs, and safeguard wilderness for generations to come. The hosts strive to maintain the property as close to nature as possible. Some initiatives towards this include harnessing energy through solar to power the lights as well as using natural springs as their main source of filtered water. The property is completely off-the-grid, with only solar energy for electricity, no Wi-Fi, no TV, and only a weak mobile telephone network. This way, one gets a real chance to integrate with nature. Care has been taken to build only the basic necessities without disturbing the surrounding flora and fauna, therefore only basic (yet comfortable) amenities are offered.

comforts

There are three cottages on the property that are built tastefully by native craftsmen. The stone cottage is a fifty-year-old labour shed that has been restored to represent a quaint English cottage that retains its old-world charm. The cottage even has a traditional English four-poster bed. With bamboo sourced from the tribal people of the area and the help of local artisans, the second cottage resembles a treehouse that comes with an attached bathroom and a bathtub. The third is a restored old cottage that is more than 65 years old with the charm and spirit of an estate bungalow with plush interiors. Additionally, two tents are available to enjoy a camping experience that can be pitched facing the valley and accommodates up to three people. However, the tents are only available for those who book either of the cottages.

food

Guests can enjoy traditional, local Kerala vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisine prepared by the cook at the property.
