the space
Blue Me Away’s hosts, a professional kitesurfer and water sports trainer, found an ideal patch of sea, sand, and surf in one of the southernmost points of the Indian subcontinent. The region, in Tamil Nadu, offers umpteen opportunities for water, nature, and cultural activities like exploring coral reefs, visiting the ghost town of Dhanushkodi, and soaking in the beauty of Ramanathaswami temple. Blue Me Away is committed to developing high-quality non-motorised experiences shared through local community guides and orphaned youth while spreading environmental and socio-cultural awareness in the region. They practice responsible travel principles and initiatives including beach cleanups, marine biodiversity awareness programs, fishermen-to-lifeguard programs, etc.
Between catching the waves and making sandcastles, rest in simple, thatched-roof earth cottages with Chettinad-style heritage windows from Karaikudi town. Red brick, coconut thatch, silver teak, and palm sticks are the predominant materials used here to provide shade from all that beachy sun.
comforts
The cottages here are designed to maximize views of the vast ocean and sky.
The property consists of 4 comfortable ensuite earth cottages, a 6-bed dorm room, and camping tents located 400 meters from the endless stretches of turquoise blue and azure ocean and soft white sand. Each cottage has an ensuite western closet with showers open to the sky.
food
Breakfast spread usually consists of cereal, toast, filter coffee, tea, fruit & eggs to order at a breakfast sitout surrounded by palm trees.
Lunch and dinner consist of fresh seafood, organic veggies coupled with lentils and rice or Indian bread. The stay caters to a variety of flavours. The hosts welcome guests to participate in adding their unique touch to the menu when possible – it’s all about sharing knowledge and experimenting here!
