the space

The Jamindar’s Bungalow is a 17th-century heritage home, once owned by a rich local landlord. It was restored to its former glory using traditional restoration techniques and along with its rich, cultural heritage, one can also enjoy natural pools, engage in fishing and experience local Bengali village culture. The highlight however, is to take part in night-safaris to track the Fishing cat, the largest of the small cats! The region is a prime habitat of the Fishing cat, found only in few places across Asia. The Jamindar’s bungalow was conceptualised to highlight the fishing cat and to generate revenue for locals through tourism. There’s hope that this conservation model will encourage locals to tolerate a variety of wildlife species that move in their private farms and fish ponds. The property is a pure wildlife and heritage conservation experience.
