the space
The Shelter is a large and spacious mountain home, situated at a height of 7000 feet above sea level. It is located 52 km from the concrete jungle of Munnar, spoilt over the last decade due to mass tourism. Set in splendid isolation with stunning views of the Western Ghats, the home shares its border with the pristine Anamudi Shola National Park. There are excellent opportunities to trek into untouched shola forests with splendid biodiversity sighting opportunities. Formerly a eucalyptus plantation, the home has been painstakingly designed and developed by the hosts over five years, reclaiming materials like discarded timber.
Originally built as a retirement home, the hosts decided to open up the space to travellers soon after. The setting is truly out of a fairytale, with jaw-dropping views and incredible skies. If you want to experience wild Kerala, this is it.
comforts
The Shelter, built entirely of wood and stone, comes with three spacious rooms, each with an occupancy of up to 5 adults. The rooms have comfortable bedding and duvets for maximum cosiness. All rooms come with ensuite western loos and an indoor fireplace with a rock chimney. Access the kitchen at any time for coffee, tea, etc. The main entrance and patio overlook the orchards and the misty valleys of Idukki.
