Amidst the growing buzz of Pangong’s new establishments, one quiet home stands still- rooted in tradition and simplicity. Tsories is a true homestay in spirit, modest and full of old-world Ladakhi charm. Run by a local Changpa family, it’s a space that glows with warmth, sunlight, and a sense of belonging. Think wooden interiors, a traditional dining nook, and an effortless access to the iconic blue lake, all set against the majestic backdrop of the Himalayas.
comforts
Tsories has four double rooms (each named after traditional Ladakhi animals like the Yak and the Kiang), spacious enough to accommodate up to three guests. Every room is equipped with heated blankets, large windows that let in soft light and warmth, and modern attached bathrooms with running hot water, an essential luxury in Pangong’s famously chilly microclimate.
Meals are served in a traditional Ladakhi dining room that doubles as a cozy common space, complete with a heater and plenty of room to unwind. Outside, two small seating areas offer the perfect setting for an evening of gurgur chai (Ladakhi butter tea) and quiet views of the lake.
food
Tsories stays true to the spirit of a Ladakhi homestay, where meals are served with care in a cosy, communal space designed for both warmth and conversation.
You’ll be treated to three home-cooked meals a day, with tea, coffee, and warm water available throughout to keep you snug in Pangong’s crisp high-altitude air.
Expect a generous spread featuring a balance of familiar Indian comfort food and traditional Ladakhi dishes like momos with turnip chutney, chhutagi (a wheat and vegetable dumpling stew), and soaked apricot desserts, all served with attentive care and plenty of accompaniments.
Breakfasts include poha, parathas, and local breads paired with warm drinks.
Due to the remote location and limited electricity across the region, meat is not available, though eggs can be arranged on request.
ideal for
Tsories is for those who want to experience the lake without losing its magic to the chaos. While the area can get crowded with fleeting visitors, this home offers a quieter, more soulful pocket where the rhythm slows down and the views are met with silence, not selfies.
Curious travellers who value simplicity, nature, and cultural connection will feel right at home here. It’s ideal for travellers who value authenticity, who seek connection with people, with place, and with themselves. Whether you’re pausing here on your way through Ladakh or spending a couple of days to let the place reveal itself slowly, this is a space that lets you catch your breath and tune in.
getting there
Tsories is located by the lakeside, next to a quiet patch of farmland. There’s usually parking available close to the property, with at most a minute’s walk to reach the house. The exact location will be shared with you after booking.
things to do
The lake is just a short walk away and once there, you may find yourself losing track of time simply sitting by its surreal stillness, watching the colours shift with the light. If you’re up for more, you can book a hike through walking trails that trace the ridge of the mountains behind the house, offering a quiet, elevated perspective on the landscape.
For those seeking a window into local life, the nearby village offers the chance to interact with shepherding communities and see a slice of everyday Ladakhi life – grazing and tending to cattle and seasonal routines.
One of the more special experiences you can book is a quiet lakeside high tea or morning picnic. You will be taken to a hidden pocket of Pangong, far from the crowds, where you’ll be served local snacks, butter tea or chang (a traditional Ladakhi barley brew), and given the space to simply be by the lakeside, still, quiet, and entirely present.
We can organise a guided walk (3-5 hours) through ancient pastoral trails to one of the last villages along the lake with a picnic lunch or a lunch at a local home. This would require spending two nights at the property.
Of course, you could just as easily spend your time at the homestay itself. After the long road to get here, there’s comfort in doing nothing and lounging indoors, swapping stories with the family, sipping tea, and watching the light shift over the mountains!
