The Other Side is a realisation of a dream by the backwaters of the Mandovi river. Built strategically to stay away from the tempting beaches of Goa and its ever-increasing tourists, this is a place that inspires endless thoughts and conversations with the lush nature around. The sprawling lawns and the rustic cottages inspire a break from the humdrum of city life. You will be lured to laze in the pool and around the winding paths amidst lush tropical greenery. The hosts have a penchant for maintaining the property as naturally as possible, with practices like composting waste food, recycling, and using native cleaning agents. Solar panels are used for hot water, and the building itself is built from reclaimed, renewable, and natural materials. Life here is sheer poetry, urging you to take the chance to connect with the silence of the backyard.
comforts
The property comes with five cottages, all with double beds and modern attached baths. Each cottage is unique in size and decor, situated at different levels of the foliage in the backyard. They are very rustic, having been made using the best locally available elements like bamboo, local stone, coconut wood, and palm leaves. The cottages are all air-cooled since the windows are large providing cross ventilation and enabling one to sleep and reside completely in harmony with nature. The bathrooms are tropical style with the roof partly open to invite sunlight offering a vista painted by the Goan sky and towering trees. All the rooms have a safe and a tea/coffee maker. The property is functional all year.
food
The food at the property is sourced from fresh seafood and locally grown vegetables which is then cooked on a traditional wood-fire. Though the cuisine is predominantly Goan with its fascinating siesta-inducing flavors, the owners change it up here and there to accommodate one’s requests for their favourite dishes. In the backyard, one will find trees growing like papaya, banana, chickoo, passion fruit, lime, pomelo, star fruit, and cashew. Of course, the delicious Goan mangoes are abundant in the months of April and May, at a time when freshly roasted cashew nuts, which are a flavour apart, add to the culinary experience.
