the space

Perfectly hidden away from the hustle and bustle of Dharamshala, with mesmerising views of snow capped mountains and the constant sound of the river flowing by. The property is a restored 118 year old mud house built during the British era by a Gorkha family. The house still sees mud flooring and the mud walls with wood paneling, giving it a rustic look in sync with the local village architecture. The views are amazing – one can see a 180 degree view of the breathtaking snow capped Dhauladhar ranges standing behind the valley; the meadows look like a Van Gogh painting, with different hues of shrubbery and grass, and one can choose to indulge in the number of trails that are waiting to be explored. There is also a stream right next to the house for those who enjoy spending time by the water. The property owners are thoughtful and are deeply involved in restoring the property and starting an organic farm to try and get “off the grid” by the next decade. The property is pet friendly and has two labradors and one cat as permanent residents.

comforts

The property comes with four double rooms of different sizes and at different levels of the house, that can accommodate a total of ten guests. Extra mattresses are available with prior notice. There is a western style WC, an Indian toilet and a bamboo bathroom, with a small geyser for bucket baths, and another bathroom with a hot shower and a WC. There are no attached bathrooms since the house is over 115 years old and the hosts have tried to retain the original structure. All the spaces on the property outside, beside the verandah, the living room and kitchen are in the common area for guests.

food

The property offers simple home cooked vegetarian and non-vegetarian meals, which need to be pre-ordered (there are no menus as the property promotes simple village life). All the vegetables and ingredients are locally sourced. If one has any particular meal preference, they can check in advance and the hosts would be willing to prepare meals accordingly.

ideal for

The property is designed for people who want to just relax, let go and take in the charm of the surroundings. If you’re looking to spend a luxurious holiday, this may not be the place for you.
